Financial support and incentives for audiovisual projects are essential for directors and screenwriters to get their ideas off the ground, this is the case of Dayane Teles, director of the short film “Dentro de Mim”, which is the only short film from Alagoas selected for the Curta Cinema Festival which takes place in Rio de Janeiro, between April 17th and 24th.

For the director, representing Arapiraca and Alagoas is an important task, mainly to inspire other people who want to pursue audiovisual. “It is truly a reason for pride and joy when local talents are recognized at festivals as significant as the Curta Cinema Festival, which is in its 33rd edition. The selection of an Arapiraca film at the Festival not only highlights the quality of the work that is produced in the region, but also serves as an inspiration for local filmmakers and artists, showing that it is possible to achieve national and even international recognition. Representing the city at such a prestigious event is certainly a great honor,” she revealed.

The short is the result of the Audiovisual Promotion Notice, carried out by the City of Arapiraca, through the Secretariat of Culture, Leisure and Youth, and the National Cinema Agency “It was an incredible initiative designed to support the creation of audiovisual content in Arapiraca covering categories such as television films, training and short and medium film productions”, he recalled.

The story portrays the adolescence of Alagoas visual artist Jackson de Lima de Limoeiro who begins to have strange visions when sleeping and which repeat themselves for decades as dreams.

World of Arapiraca

In the year of Arapiraca’s Centenary, Dayane is producing another short film with the support of the Paulo Gustavo Law aimed at the municipality. “Mundo de Arapiraca” is a fable that portrays the centuries-old history of Arapiraca through the eyes of a child, who comes across the past and future of himself and his city alongside a fiddle.

The idea for the film existed for a while, reveals Dayane, but it was only now with the Paulo Gustavo Law Notice, released by the Municipal Department of Culture, Leisure and Youth, that the team is able to get it off the ground. “Funding notices are important tools in Brazil for encouraging culture and art, enabling filmmakers, producers and artists in the city to have access to resources to carry out their works. We kept the dream alive, now, with the project about to be put into practice in the city, it is an exciting moment. Certainly, the journey so far has prepared us for this moment now,” she highlighted.

The team has already started casting to play Joãozinho, Vovô Griga and Bisa Mocinha. Interested parties must send the necessary material by April 8th to the email [email protected].

The director has extensive experience in the area, and is the creator of Cine Clube Quatro Estações, Cine Primavera, Cine Inverno and Projeto Cine na Rede. She also participated in the Collective Direction of the Film Ana Terra, winning awards for best actress, best art direction and best popular jury film.
