The Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, was diagnosed with Covid-19 and, therefore, canceled public agendas for this Monday (1st). According to the press office of Palácio do Planalto, he “has mild symptoms and is doing well”.

In addition to his role as Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin is also Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (Mdic). There is still no prediction of when he will return from the Esplanada dos Ministérios.

In this sense, according to medical recommendations, Alckmin will rest “for prompt recovery” at the Jaburu Palace, the official residence of the Presidency of the Republic, where he lives with his wife Lu Alckmin, in Brasília.

At 71 years old, this is the second time that Alckmin has been diagnosed with Covid-19. The first time he became ill with the coronavirus was in May 2022, when he was then a pre-candidate on the ticket with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, forming the PSB and PT duo.

With a dual role at the Esplanada dos Ministérios, Geraldo Alckmin forms the link between Palácio do Planalto and industrial and business sectors, mainly in São Paulo. Furthermore, as vice-president, he has welcomed leaders, including religious and centrist leaders, into his office..

Last week, the main highlights on his agenda were: the announcement of the decree that regulated the Mover program, which grants incentives to the automotive industry that promote decarbonization and energy transition of fleets. Furthermore, he was with Lula on French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Brazil.
