In today’s episode of the History in Pills series, we will remember a sad episode in Brazil’s history with the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and rescue the ongoing struggle of the São Paulo Bank Workers’ Union to save lives.
From the first moments of social distancing, the Union quickly adapted and opened negotiations with bankers to place more than 200 thousand workers in a home office, in addition to protecting its employees, and readjusting salaries and PLR for bank employees, with a commitment of banks to sign the CCT with clauses aimed at home office and protection for bank employees.
Due to the worsening of Covid-19 cases, it was determined at the National Conference of Bank Employees, in July 2020, that the use of networks would be essential to establish direct communication with bank employees, a Crisis Committee with Banks was created and also pressured the Federal Government of Jair Bolsonaro to include bank employees in the priority list of the first risk group that would receive the vaccine.
The Union took a leap forward in digital communication and learned to work with social networks since the streets were not allowed. The negotiation process and the Union’s tireless struggle were so successful that its struggle was recognized internationally during an international seminar organized by Uni Global Union, in Fortaleza (CE), in 2022.
