Big E suffered a serious neck injury in March 2022, and has not fought again since then, and there is even a chance he may never do so again.

In an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri from CBS Sports, Big E was asked about the future of his wrestling career.

The best thing is that they put me in control of it. Obviously, I’m listening to the doctors. They know more than I do about my health and prognosis. It’s one of those things where my ability to live my day-to-day life and go to the gym is in no way compromised. But obviously getting in the ring and falling, getting thrown on your back and neck is a little different.

I have been doing physical activities my whole life and never wanted to give up sports due to injury. Now, at 38 years old, these are my considerations. I want to make sure I’m making the best decision for myself and my health in the future. It’s just one of those things I want to be smart about. It’s just a matter of listening to the doctors, getting enough information, analyzing my most recent set of tests and deciding if the gamble is worth it.

Big E also revealed that he received advice from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Edge (Adam Copeland), who both lead with neck injuries in their careers.

Unfortunately, neck injuries are somewhat common in our industry. I talked to a few different people. The issue is also that all of our scenarios are a little different. Some have problems with stenosis. Some need mergers. I didn’t have neck surgery. I was in a difficult situation for three months.

I have been so grateful for so many people I grew up adoring and watching as a child, so many legends who wanted to reach out and share what they went through when they suffered neck injuries. I’m very grateful to all of them for following me to ask questions and their advice was also helpful.

Do you think Big E will still return to the ring?
