The influenza immunization campaign begins this Monday (18) in Rio Grande do Norte. According to the State Health Department (Sesap/RN), the Ministry of Health sent more than 360 thousand doses in this first batch to serve priority groups. Among them are children aged 6 months to under 6 years old, healthcare workers and pregnant women.

The start of vaccination in Rio Grande do Norte begins one week before the date suggested by the Ministry of Health, which is March 25, as the official milestone to combat influenza for the Northeast, Central-West, South and Southeast Regions. The coordinator of the State Immunization Program, Laiane Graziela, clarifies that the decision was agreed upon by the Vaccination Technical Chamber due to the period of greater circulation of viruses.

The vaccine used in the campaign is trivalent, which protects against the main influenza viruses circulating in Brazil and can be applied in conjunction with other immunizers from the National Vaccination Calendar. In 2023, around 961 thousand doses of the influenza vaccine were administered in RN.
