Engaged in the actions of the March Blue campaign, reinforcing prevention and awareness of bowel cancer, Santa Isabel Municipal Hospital (HMSI) will hold a colonoscopy campaign next week. The action takes place on the 25th, 26th and 27th of March, benefiting 60 patients with the exam, which is the best way to detect bowel cancer in its early stages.

The joint effort, organized by HMSI’s Coloproctology Service, through the Medical Residency Program in Coloproctology, aims to speed up possible diagnoses of bowel cancer, in addition to other diseases, and will benefit patients who were already on the Regulatory waiting list. Municipal, reducing existing pent-up demand.

“Colorectal cancer, popularly known as bowel cancer, is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. In Brazil, it is the second most common cancer in both sexes, with an increasing incidence even in younger patients. But it is a preventable disease and, when diagnosed early, it can be cured up to 90%”, highlights doctor Shirlane Frutuoso, coordinator of the Coloproctology Residency Program at Santa Isabel Hospital.

The joint effort will involve the participation of a multidisciplinary team, made up of doctors, anesthetists, nurses, nursing technicians, as well as stretcher bearers, receptionists, extra support and cleaning staff. On Monday (25), Tuesday (26) and Wednesday (27), the surgery and exam rooms will be used exclusively to care for the group’s patients, all with the aim of ensuring the success of the initiative.

Blue March – The Blue March campaign also calls on the population to consider the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle habits. “The colorectal cancer prevention campaign calls on the population to adopt behavioral measures, with a healthier lifestyle, increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables, reducing the intake of red, processed or processed meats, ceasing smoking and combating obesity through regular physical activity”, highlighted Shirlane Frutuoso.
