The mayor met, this Thursday (21), with the team from the Health Department and representatives from other municipal departments, as well as entities and organizations such as Infraero, the Commercial and Business Association of Guarujá (Aceg) and Unions

Concerned about the increase in dengue cases, the mayor of Guarujá called a meeting with the Municipal Dengue Committee last Thursday (21), which included the participation of several entities and organizations in the City, to request mobilization of civil society in the combating the mosquito that transmits the disease.

The meeting, led by the Municipal Health Department (Sesau), was attended by members of the Commercial and Business Association of Guarujá (Aceg), the Union of Employees in Buildings and Condominiums and Employees of Property Purchase, Sale, Leasing and Administration Companies of Guarujá and Bertioga (Seeclag), other municipal departments, health units and the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero).

On the occasion, the Health Surveillance superintendent provided an overview of the dengue situation in Guarujá. He addressed the definition of arboviruses and the risk to public health. Furthermore, he presented the historical series of cases, the current situation, the care flowcharts and highlighted the importance of notification by health establishments. “This guides our actions to combat and control dengue and chikungunya, which are our biggest concerns today.”

The meeting also included an explanation by the Secretariat’s medical coordinator, Semer Mahamoud, about the signs and symptoms and clinical manifestations of alarm. “Abdominal pain, vomiting and bleeding are conditions that require urgent medical attention”, he emphasizes.

Coping

The head of the Executive of Guarujá highlighted the challenge that Guarujá faces. “The issue of dengue worries us, since the virus in circulation is type 1, leaving those who did not catch the disease in the 2009/2010 epidemic more susceptible, and may even progress to the hemorrhagic phase of the disease. We have several actions being carried out every day”, he highlighted.

The Secretary of Health of Guarujá highlighted the importance of the meeting. “The Committee is a mobilizing movement in the fight we are facing against dengue. Therefore, we are here to discuss actions and involve everyone in this fight, because with the support of the population we will be able to achieve the objective”.
