Cosmópolis (SP), Nova Odessa (SP) and Santa Bárbara d’Oeste (SP) joined the list of municipalities that will receive doses of the dengue vaccine, released this Thursday (28) by the Ministry of Health. Initially, the immunization aims to protect children and adolescents aged 10 to 14.

The cities are located in 11 Health Regions, which are formed by border municipalities that share communication networks and transport infrastructure. The purpose of these regions is to integrate the organization, planning and execution of health actions and services.

In the case of the three municipalities in the region, they were included because, although they are in the coverage area of the g1 Piracicabaare part of the Metropolitan Region of Campinas (RMC) – one of those selected to receive the doses.

Engenheiro Coelho (SP) was the only city in the MRC that was not included on the list. The report questioned the Ministry of Health about why the city was not receiving doses and was awaiting a response.

The Ministry of Health has not yet detailed the number of doses per municipality, but reported that the relocation will be carried out by the states themselves within a list.

Distribution is expected to begin next week, depending on logistical issues. From there, municipalities can begin immunizing the target audience of children and adolescents aged 10 to 14.

Nova Odessa City Hall reported that Epidemiological Surveillance celebrated the announcement, but has not yet received formal communication from regional health bodies and is awaiting guidance to disclose vaccination details.

The report questioned the city halls of Santa Bárbara and Cosmópolis and is awaiting feedback.

Dose redistribution

According to the ministry, there are 668 thousand doses that will expire on April 30, 523 thousand in June and 84 thousand in July. To prevent these doses from being unused, the ministry determined the redistribution of immunization agents.

“We cannot let these doses expire. Given this, the Ministry came up with a solution: redistribute, within the federated units, that is, within the states, to municipalities that have not yet been covered”, said Éder Gatti, director of the Department of the National Immunization Program (DPNI).
