Thirty homeless people participated this Wednesday (27) in the Saúde Pop program, at the Specialized Reference Center for Homeless People – Centro Pop I. The activity brings together teams from the City Hall, through the Street Clinic, at care for this vulnerable population. This month the theme was the Tuberculosis Awareness and Combat Campaign to guide and offer the necessary health care for those who show symptoms, as the disease is contagious and can spread easily in crowded environments and poor hygiene conditions.

The activity began with an informative lecture on tuberculosis prevention and treatment, which spoke about the symptoms of the disease, prevention methods, the importance of early diagnosis and available treatments. Furthermore, the public was able to collect tests to detect possible cases of the disease and thus receive treatment.

Monthly meetings

The Saúde Pop program takes place monthly and the meetings are alternated in the spaces of Centro Pop I, in Vila Progresso, and Se-Pop, in Macedo, units designed to support people living on the streets. In these locations, the vulnerable population has access to meals such as breakfast, space for personal hygiene, washing clothes and technical assistance in social services and psychology.

Both units are linked to the Department of Development and Social Assistance and operate from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm.
