Uruguaiana Health Department warns of the rapid evolution of dengue fever in the municipality

In Uruguaiana, on Monday alone, there were eight new cases of dengue in the urban area, seven indigenous (acquired within the city itself) and one imported.

Five female patients were infected with the virus, aged 24, 34, 53, 58 and 75 respectively. And three men – aged 28, 65 and 75. Half of the cases detected in the São Miguel neighborhood.

To date, there are 83 confirmed cases in the city (73 indigenous and 10 imported), another 120 under investigation at Lacen – Central Laboratory of RS and 175 discarded – out of a total of 378 notifications since the beginning of the year. The index exceeds the entire year 2023 by 145%, when 34 positive cases were identified. There are no hospitalized for the illness.

The largest volume remains in the age group between 30 and 49 years of age, mainly among women, without there being a scientific explanation for the incidence, infectologists report.

“The projection that had been made by the State Department of Health (SES) is confirmed. The curve outline indicates that we would experience an explosion of cases in this endemic period”, states the Secretary of Health, Suziele Pivetta.

The municipality is under a public health emergency decree and all possible preventive measures are being taken to contain the spread of mosquitoes and their outbreaks, reiterates Suziele.

“Until the first half of May, the trend is for an exponential increase in cases. Last year, in June there were still records of the disease. We cannot treat the evolving situation naturally. The situation is really serious”, adds Suziele.

According to the 10th Regional Health Coordination, there are 29 positive cases in São Gabriel, Sant’Ana do Livramento 20, Alegrete 12, Itaqui 6, Quaraí another six, Maçambará 1 and Rosário do Sul, also 1.

In Uruguaiana, the neighborhoods Nova Esperança, Santo Inácio, São João, Ipiranga, Centro and now São Miguel have the highest percentages.

In all areas where there are positive results, the 55 Endemic Disease Control Agents (ACEs) immediately spray at least 150 meters of the area where the case was confirmed and 15 days later a second stage of fumigation takes place in the same perimeter.
