The Manuel de Boaventura Library, in Esposende, presented this Friday the book ‘Sede de Viver’, written by Cristina Leites, a former collaborator of the municipality, where she worked for 18 years.

Blind since birth, Cristina Leites recorded in her memoir the physical, psychological and social obstacles she faced throughout her life, in particular the fight against leukemia that would culminate in her death, on July 15, 2019.

“This book is an inspiring account of our lives, capable of showing us how small our problems will be, when compared to the enormous barriers that Cristina always had to overcome”, said Benjamim Pereira, president of Esposende City Council.

‘Thirst to Live’ is a testimony that takes us to a world of charms and disappointments, shared in the first person, in which Cristina Leites reveals all the strength with which she faced life’s challenges.

He graduated in Philosophy and went on to teach, having participated in several gatherings and sessions where he exposed his life experience to the public. In this book, Cristina Calafate Leites, who was born in Fão in 1969, shares the raw testimony of suffering, interrupted by death.

Contextualizing the tribute ceremony to Cristina Leites, by the vice-president of the City Council and councilor for Culture, Alexandra Roeger, Felícia Leites, Cristina’s sister, thanked “everyone who helped publish the book”, because the work “reveals the a lot that Cristina had to teach us.”

For her part, another sister, Luzia Leites, recalled that Cristina “was a force of nature who left us a lesson in the way we should approach life”.

The launch session for ‘Sede de Viver’ was an opportunity for several of Cristina Leites’ former co-workers to remember moments and experiences, highlighting her humanist facet: “He was a person who taught us how to be better”.
