Within the scope of the European University of the Seas, the University of Algarve organized and hosted, on the 7th and 8th of March, the meetings of the Joint Programs Working Group (JPWG). More than 20 representatives from nine SEA-EU Alliance universities participated in person and online.

On the first day, Patricia Pinto, pro-rector for the Alliance of European Maritime Universities, welcomed the participants. Next, Lola Perea Barbera, from the University of Cádiz, presented in detail a report on the JPWG subgroups of experts, covering topics such as the Glossary of Joint Programs, student mobility, certification of English proficiency, internships, relations with industry, process assessment and quality assurance.

The representatives also shared ideas on the topics covered and on the different ways of disseminating Joint Programs between external universities and SEA-EU Alliance partners

Also on March 7, Laura Howard, professor at the University of Cádiz, discussed the awarding of joint diplomas (EDLab Project) leading to a European degree, highlighting experiences in promoting cooperation in European higher education. Representatives from nine universities exchanged information and ideas about the challenges associated with awarding Joint Program degrees based on different university and country regulations.

The second day focused on two crucial themes: fees and financing and the Common Platform for SEA-EU Joint Programmes. Delphine Dall from Brest University shared information and some experiences from the Turquoooise project to help the JPWG determine the financial picture. Finally, Adriano Pires, from the University of Algarve, concluded the meeting by presenting information about the JPWG’s Common Platform and Digital Identity.
