Concelhio Reading Competition distinguished children and young people from the first, second and third cycles of the School Group

The Oliveira de Frades Municipal Museum recently hosted the final of the Municipal Reading Competition, organized by the local council. In this competition, the winners of the first, second and third cycles of the municipality’s School Group were determined.

At this event, the vice-president of the municipality, José Luís Lima, praised the students for participating in the literary challenge and thanked the work and commitment of the teachers who “have played a leading role among young people in their enjoyment of reading”.

In the first cycle, Letícia Lajas was the winner, followed by Simão Marto (2nd place) and Maria Alves (3rd place). Maria Simões and Carlota Jeremias shared 4th place.

In the second cycle, the first prize was awarded to Lourenço Ferreira. Luísa Matos (2nd place), Ana Correia (3rd place), Francisco Gomes and Iara Pereira (4th place) were also distinguished in this category.

And in the third cycle, the contest was won by Laura Fontes. Catarina Ferreira (2nd place), Matilde Silva (3rd place), Madalena Almeida and Bruna Marques (4th place) were the remaining winners.

The books suggested for the competition were “The girl who hated books” by Manjusha Pawagi, “The Bronze Boy” by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, “The World in which I lived” by Ilse Losa and “Misericórdia” by Lídia Jorge.

The competition jury was made up of municipal librarian Manuel Tojal, professor João Aparício (also a librarian at the local School Group) and Paixão Pinto, inter-municipal coordinator of the School Libraries Network.

“This initiative aimed to promote and encourage writing and reading by national and international authors among children and young people in the municipality”, highlights the Câmara de Oliveira de Frades in a statement.
