The Higher Education School’s initiative will take place on the 20th and 21st of March. Freedom of expression, human rights in journalism and local media outlets as spaces of resistance are the main themes of this year’s edition

The Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu (ESEV) promotes another edition of the Social Communication Days on the 20th and 21st of March. The initiative celebrates the 29th anniversary of the course.

This year, the themes are freedom of expression and human rights in journalism, as well as local media outlets as spaces of resistance. The program includes lectures with ESEV graduates and communication professionals.

On the 20th in the morning, in the school auditorium, the conference “Freedom of expression in journalism and human rights” will be held, with the presence of journalists Vítor Carmo and Paula Sofia Luz.

The “pocket seminar” organized by the Regional and Community Media Working Group of the Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences (SOPCOM) begins at 11:30 am, with the theme “The resistance of local media and alternatives for giving voice to communities in media deserts”.

The 10th Specialized Journalism Meeting is scheduled for the afternoon, with the presentation of investigations by students Beatriz Fonseca and Inês Costa.

On the 21st, at 10 am, the ESEV auditorium welcomes the marketing director of the Dão Region Wine Commission, Francisco Santos Lima, who will speak about the challenges of journalism and consultancy. During the afternoon, a television journalism workshop will take place with journalist Márcia Silva Gonçalves.

From 4pm onwards the session “I’m going to Intern. What now?”, in which ESEV Social Communication graduates will talk about their internship experiences and current professional situations.

At 5pm, a short film screening begins in which two groups of students will talk about the process “from idea to film”.

To end the event, a course dinner will take place at 8:30 pm where current students, former students and teachers involved in the degree and ESEV are expected to participate.
