The first anniversary of Rui Nabeiro’s death is marked on Tuesday in Campo Maior (Portalegre), a town that lost its “biggest reference”, the businessman who was “a different man”, but also in Braga, where there will be a mass in your honor.
Mass takes place at 7:00 pm at the Sequeira Church.
“We lost the biggest reference, he was a prominent person, a different man”, said the mayor of Campo Maior, Luís Rosinha, today, speaking to the Lusa agency.
In everyday life, on the streets of Campo Maior, the absence of Rui Nabeiro, founder of the Nabeiro-Delta Cafés Group, who died on March 19, 2023, “is not noticeable”, according to the mayor.
But only because the people “continue to try to follow his legacy, the teachings he left behind” in the community of that Raiana village, he added.
“The people of Campo Maior continue in their normal activities, in their work life, in their lives, but realizing that there was a unique reference that no longer exists”, highlighted Luís Rosinha.
However, the mayor also emphasizes that the loss of a man who “looked at his land like few men in the world, always with feeling and love” for his countrymen is “clearly” noticeable.
“He was a man who was always present in everything, he made a point of being present in everything that was part of the life of the community and whose absence we found strange this last year”, he lamented.
To commemorate the founder of the Nabeiro Group – Delta Cafés, a tribute is being prepared in that Alentejo town, precisely on the day on which the first anniversary of his death will be marked, on March 19th, Tuesday.
“It is a fair tribute and the tribute that we have to practice every day of our lives, to remember that there was a fantastic human being who looked at his land in a very particular way”, highlighted Luís Rosinha.
In a statement sent to Lusa, the Nabeiro Group revealed that the ceremonies in honor of Rui Nabeiro will begin at 10:30 am, next to the businessman’s statue in the center of that town, with the unveiling of a phrase evocative of his legacy, the placement of flowers.
Speeches are also planned from the mayor of the municipality and the chairman of Grupo Nabeiro – Delta Cafés, João Manuel Nabeiro.
Afterwards, at 12:00, a mass will be celebrated at the Igreja Matriz de Campo Maior.
The Nabeiro Group also informed that masses will take place across the country in memory of the businessman: São Miguel, in the Azores, Aveiro, Beja, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Caniço, in Madeira, Porto , Santarém, Setúbal and Viseu.
