“Musical Meeting of Affections”. This was the theme of the concert that on March 1st brought together, in the auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Investigação do Funchal, in Madeira, the voices of the choir of the Associação de Solidariedade Social dos Professores (ASSP) of S. João da Madeira and the Madeira Chamber Choir.
With engaging harmonies and a simple presentation, the Sanjoan delegation, made up of around 40 members, enchanted the audience present, but the Continente group’s performance went beyond musical performance. The ASSP choir enriched the show with poetry recitations and a parade of hats, which also served to promote and publicize the municipality of S. João da Madeira and its industry, especially recognized for this accessory and footwear. “The balance is extremely positive. Not only because of the interaction it allowed between the two choirs, the shared experience, the conviviality, but also as a way of promoting and publicizing the city and its main industrial activities”, explained Rui Maia, president of Coro ASSP.
In addition to the “Musical Meeting of Affections”, the choir of S. João da Madeira also had a special participation in the Thanksgiving mass, at the Cathedral of Funchal, presided over by the local Bishop, D. Nuno Brás.
Taking advantage of the visit to Madeira, and in a more playful way, over the course of three days, the group from São Paulo had the opportunity to visit several tourist attractions on the island, delve into its history and enjoy its gastronomy. A cultural immersion that enriched the experience of this choir from S. João da Madeira.
