Mangualde: Residence for the elderly, victims of domestic violence opens on March 18th: Gazeta Rural

The Municipality of Mangualde welcomes the inauguration, next Monday, March 18, at 10:30 am, of the Residential Structure for Elderly People (ERPI), aimed at women, victims of domestic violence, in Abrunhosa do Mato, in the parish of Cunha Baixa.

This is the second of two residences planned in the country (the first opened at the end of last year, in Grândola), located in the old primary school building, with capacity for 40 beds.

The Cunha Baixa Parish Center is the promoter of this work, which cost around 1.5 million euros, 150 thousand euros (10%) contributed by the Municipality of Mangualde.

“It is with great satisfaction that we welcome this pilot experience in the municipality which, in our case, will respond to elderly women, victims of domestic violence, from the Center and North regions of the country”, says the mayor of Mangualde Marco Almeida .

“Although the promoter of this work is the Centro Paroquial de Cunha Baixa, the Municipality could not be unaware of this problem of domestic violence, with 60 cases registered last year in the municipality.

Last February, a Victim Support Office from the APAV national network was also installed at the Mangualde Health Center, the only one in the district of Viseu.

“It is with a concerted response and working in a network with all institutions that we hope to alleviate this complex problem of domestic violence, which cuts across the country”, adds Marco Almeida.

These residential facilities, announced in 2022 by the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality, Rosa Monteiro, are financed by the FEDER and are the result of the Government’s multisectoral work (areas of Citizenship and Equality, Territorial Cohesion and Labor, Solidarity and Social Security) and municipalities and civil society organizations, responsible for management.
