School was used as a refuge by members of a group that had been involved in clashes with another rival group

Clashes between two rival groups – one from Casal de Cambra and Caneças, municipalities of Sintra and Odivelas, and the other from Casal de Mira, in Amadora – provoked panic inside the Seomara da Costa Primo Secondary School, in Amadora, on Thursday. as well as in its immediate vicinity.

Five suspects were identified, aged between 18 and 19, all male. The young people all have criminal records.

On Thursday, the Public Security Police (PSP) were called to the school due to reports of gunshots. However, no weapons or casings were found.

Two of the identified suspects told authorities that, when they were moving on Rua Elias Garcia, towards the train station, they were approached by the other individuals. One of them wielded a firearm and shot them, causing them to flee into the school.

These young people decided to take refuge in the educational establishment because they felt it would be a place where they would be safe, since police presence inside and outside the school is recurrent, within the scope of the Safe School Program.

The teaching establishment’s assistants informed the PSP that a group of young people were moving towards the premises again and, at that time, the two suspects were intercepted and searched. The individuals did not have any illicit objects in their possession.

Through video surveillance images it was possible to see that one of them had a sharp weapon in his possession, before being intercepted. The young man ended up admitting that he had the gun but threw it in the trash. However, authorities were unable to find any knife in the crates.

The images from the video surveillance system were preserved and the Judicial Police (PJ) was contacted.

All suspects were taken to the Reboleira Police Station, in Amadora, to carry out due diligence.

The Public Ministry was informed.
