In the early evening of March 15th, at the end of the visit, André Martins made the commitment to, “briefly”the Ídolos da Praça Recreational and Sports Center will be able to install the new mesh fence of the Manuel Alves Games Field, with the support of the City Council and the Parish Council.

“We came to assess the difficulties, which are always many, for these people who dedicate a good part of their lives to serving others, particularly these children who prepare for sports here. Our purpose is, of course, to continue supporting communities”said the mayor, who was accompanied by councilors Pedro Pina and Rita Carvalho and the president of the board, Luís Matos.

André Martins highlighted that the City Council and the council’s parish councils consider the communities “an important and dynamic part” of the community, “and that’s why they will continue to have support” of the local authorities, considering that the Idols of the Square are a “a collective that has enormous dynamics, with this leadership, these social bodies and, above all, the president”.

The president of Ídolos da Praça, Bruno Vigário, showed the mayors the latest improvements made to the facilities, namely a support kitchen and the adaptation of a space for the management office, and presented the project to requalify the fences on the playing field, which and yours “biggest concern”as the networks are in poor condition.

“The Idols of the Square have always had a very close relationship with the executive of the City Council and with the executive of the Parish Council of São Sebastião. We have direct contacts with members of the executive, we have always had a positive response to everything within the municipality’s reach and the requalification of the fences on the playing field confirms this”stated.

The visit to the Idols of the Square concluded a day dedicated to contacts with the population in various areas of the municipality, starting in the morning at Mercado 2 de Abril, where André Martins, accompanied by vice-president Carla Guerreiro, Pedro Pina, Rita Carvalho and Luís Matos, intended to understand the concerns and needs of traders and customers.

“Sellers complained about a decrease in business, stating that people buy the minimum amount because there is not enough money for more. We left a word of solidarity and hope that things can improve and we will analyze how, together with the Parish Council, we can contribute to improving this situation”he stated.

The president of the Parish Council of São Sebastião noted that the stalls have “good articles”but have “low market attendance” due to “low profit” of people, reinforcing that the two local authorities, together with traders, will reflect on ways to increase footfall in that commercial space.

In the early afternoon, accompanied by Carla Guerreiro, Rita Carvalho and the president of the Parish Council of Sado, Marlene Caetano, André Martins visited the Social and Cultural Center of the Parish of Sado, a space open to the population with different features.

In front of a group of women who, as part of Women’s Day and the 50th Anniversary of the 25th of April, participated in a debate about what it means to be a woman today and what it was like to be a woman before the 1974 revolution, the president of Chamber considered that current times are “very difficult”but “We live much better than in other times”particularly before the 25th of April.

“Our responsibility is to create conditions so that those who come next have better conditions than we had when we arrived here”he said, highlighting that “The most important thing for a human being is to have a life of dignity” and for this it is necessary that “those who decide and have power must respect each and every one”.

Marlene Caetano highlighted the need to encourage the creation of community networks, as happens with users of the center. “Our community network ends up being our support for the good things and the less good things”he said.
