A Parish of Ferreiras Since last Friday, March 15th, there has been another piece of sports equipment available to the population. During the morning, the president of Albufeira City Council, councilors, presidents of the municipality’s Parish Councils, the proponent of the Multisports Requalification project, work within the scope of the 2020 Participatory Budget, GNR, Maritime Authority, technicians from the municipality, among other entities, joined by several popular people, gathered at the site, where the inauguration ceremony of the aforementioned sports equipment took place.
The President of Albufeira City Council, José Carlos Rolo, highlighted that this is another piece of equipment, whose improvement works are part of the Municipality’s Strategy to become a European Sports City in 2026.
The week ended on a very positive note for the population of Ferreiras. Last Friday morning, March 15th, began with the inauguration of the Redevelopment works at the Polidesportivo, located next to Bairro 17 de Junho and the Railway station.
This is a project within the scope of the 2020 Participatory Budget, whose intervention consisted of improving the sports field by replacing the floor, marking the sports lines and placing equipment that, from now on, allows the practice of three different sports: basketball, futsal and handball. Various repairs were also carried out on the exterior, which gave the space an improved and inviting appearance for young people and residents of the area who, in addition to using the playground, can take advantage of the opportunity to exercise on the exercise equipment. fitness installed in a space adjacent to the Sports Center. The intervention involved an investment of 64,117.98 euros.
After the unveiling of the inauguration plaque, already during the speeches period, the President of the City Council, stressed that this is another sporting equipment made available to the population, which is part of a broader strategy that also integrates the requalification works at the Polidesportivos do Ribeiro, next to the Albufeira Camping Park, (opened on the 4th), the Polidesportivo de Olhos de Água (opened on the 8th) and the Polidesportivo da Quinta da Quinta da Palmeira, in Albufeira, which It still needs to be opened. José Carlos Rolo highlighted that “the Municipality’s Sports Strategy has been worked on in order to strengthen the Municipality’s candidacy for European City of Sports in 2026”. Regarding the improvement of the Polidesportivo de Ferreiras, he made a point of highlighting that the most important thing is to create conditions for the promotion of sports as close as possible to the community, to the people who will use the infrastructure. Concluding his intervention, the mayor left an appeal to the residents of the area and the Ferreiras Parish Council to be a kind of “caretaker of the space”, so that it remains well looked after and away from vandalism.
António Colaço spoke as project proponent, recalling the times when I was around here kicking the ball, then, approximately 10 years ago, the Ferreiras Parish Council had to promote the rehabilitation of the space, which a few years later it was completely dilapidated and abandoned. This situation was very difficult for me, I said, that’s why today is a happy day and that’s why, too, “I would like young people to respect and preserve this sports infrastructure, so that in 8 or 10 years we will not have to carry out requalification works again”.
The president of the Albufeira Municipal Assembly, in turn, highlighted that in addition to being equipment intended for sports, this is also a space for people to meet and socialize, which must be maintained and preserved. Francisco Oliveira also recalled that “the Parish of Ferreiras has a huge sporting tradition, having achieved excellent results that have contributed to taking the name of Albufeira further”.
Cristiano Cabrita, vice-president of the municipality with responsibility for the areas of Sports and Participatory Budgeting, revealed that he was very happy with the completion of yet another sports project that “it resulted from a need felt by a resident of Ferreiras, revealing the civic sense of the population, their contribution and willingness to collaborate in managing the municipality’s development”.
