Nuno Faria, professor at the Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha, was chosen to be the new director of the Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva Foundation Museum, the result of an international public competition.

The curator was unanimously chosen by the jury made up of historian Raquel Henriques da Silva, cultural manager Teresa Patrício Gouveia and curator Vicente Todolí.

The professor’s mandate, as director of the Arpad Szenes — Vieira da Silva Foundation Museum, begins this March, lasting three years.

The new person in charge directed the City Museum, in Porto, between 2019 and 2022, and the Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães, in Guimarães, between 2013 and 2019.

He was also deputy director of the Institute of Contemporary Art of the Ministry of Culture (2001-2003), and worked at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2003-2009), where he was a consultant for the Fine Arts Service and resident curator.

The Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva Foundation, created on May 10, 1990, aims to promote the dissemination and study of the work of Vieira da Silva and Arpad Szenes, and of their contemporary artists with whom they lived or whose work they admired.

The museum opened on November 4, 1994, with a collection made up of works donated by Vieira da Silva and the deposit of works from private collections.

The foundation also has a nucleus of works by Arpad Szenes, more than two thousand pieces in different techniques and supports.

The museum carries out continuous research and editing work to provide the public with new information about the artists Arpad and Vieira and their group of friends.
