Pombal creates Family and Parenting Support Office

Providing specialized support services aimed at families with children and/or adolescents, aimed at prevention, promotion of parental, personal and social skills of families, is the mission of the Family and Parenting Support Office (GAFP) created by the City Council from Pombal.

The vision of this innovative response arises within the scope of the Pombal 2030 Action Plan, which defines the development strategy of the municipality of Pombal, contributing to the strategic objective of making Pombal a more cohesive and inclusive municipality, achieving the ME. 10.01 regarding the creation of an attractive and inclusive territory for families.

The GAFP, which will be carried out by technicians from the Educational Projects Unit and Social Development Division, is also in line with the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations, namely, for SDGs 1, 2, 4, 5, 10 and 17.

Targeting families with children and/or teenagers aged 0 to 18, residing in the municipality of Pombal, the Office will offer a range of services, namely: Parental Consultancy; Baby Bench; Sling library; and the “Berço Feliz” Birth Support and Incentive Program.

It will also feature Parental Training programs aimed at families with children in different age groups: “Mais Família, Mais Criança”, from 3 to 9 years old; “Mais Família, Mais Jovem”, from 10 to 18 years old; and, “Children in the Middle of Conflict” – programs written by Maria Filomena Gaspar, Madalena Alarcão and Joana Sequeira (FPCE-UC).

The creation of the Family and Parenting Support Office fulfills one of the commitments made by the current Municipal Executive, chaired by Pedro Pimpão, with all Pombalenses, translated into a new ambition to promote a conducive and welcoming environment for families, encouraging conscious parenting . Namely to provide specialized support and advice, with the aim of training and promoting parental skills.
