A 32-year-old woman was arrested in Leiria on suspicion of the crime of domestic violence against her partner, who allegedly physically and psychologically attacked her, the Public Security Police (PSP) announced this Wednesday.

In a statement, the PSP explained that the suspect was arrested on Monday for allegedly committing the crime of domestic violence, having been charged with “extreme physical and psychological violence towards her 59-year-old partner”.

According to the PSP, the woman carried out “persecution actions at the man’s place of work and leisure”, in addition to controlling his cell phone, including “threats of suicide using a knife”.

The police stated that “a large part of this behavior [eram] in the presence of their youngest child.”

The PSP said that the victim, who “already asked for help several times”, slept “in a separate room with the door locked for fear of his integrity”.

In addition to the “episodes of psychological violence”, the man “was attacked several times on different parts of his body”, and the defendant exerted “coerce on him to carry out her control and jealousy maneuvers, as well as to obtain material goods” .

Present this Wednesday at the first judicial interrogation, the criminal investigation judge ordered the defendant to await the investigation in freedom, but prohibited from contacting, staying and visiting the victim’s residence, as well as her place of work.

A PSP source told Lusa that the defendant has no criminal record and that this security force has no record of other complaints from the victim.
