O Desire – Arts Movement and Common Placesa project by Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Cultureopened a call for local, national and international artists to present participatory and community artistic creations, to debut at the time of the project’s public presentation, between the 10th and 14th of June 2025.

Theater, Dance, Music, Circus Arts, Performance, Painting, Sculpture, Video, Photography, New Media, Installation, Design, or Architecture are some of the artistic areas covered, and transdisciplinary proposals that activate participatory, community and sustainable dimensions are privileged directed to the public space throughout the territory of the municipality of Braga.

Open to proposals until April 15th, the Desejar call for proposals is a way of including in the project the most relevant things being created in the area of Participatory and Community Art, at the same time as citizens who co-create and define this initiative, in a set of sessions that have already started (which we call Assemblies of Desire) that take place periodically in the Braga Market.

Of the proposals sent, 2 to 4 will be selected by a jury composed of Francis Wilker, curator, theater director and special advisor to the president of Funarte; Hugo Cruz, artistic director of Desejar – Movimento de Artes e Lugares Comuns; Luís Fernandes, artistic director of Theatro Circo; Raquel Ribeiro Santos, programmer at Culturgest; and Teresa Amorim, activist.

Each selected project will be entitled to a grant that will cover production costs, cachets for the artistic and technical team, travel expenses, food and accommodation. The total amount available for all projects in the call for proposals is €40,000.

To participate, interested people must fill out the form available online at www.braga25.pt.

O To wish It is born from the search for answers and consequently actions to combat social apathy and low levels of citizen participation. Fragile participatory acts affect our ability to desire in the sense of imagining other worlds, other possible modes of relationship, being and production. It is in the space of vital drive, which is desire, that this movement is intended to support. The main bases of this project are artistic creation and experimentation, participation and communities, horizontal relationship with nature, and exchange of knowledge.

This project is part of Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Culture. We are preparing a whole year of celebrating national artistic creation, in connection with Europe and with artists and cultural agents from Braga.
