The list of the most popular destinations for Europeans to spend their Easter holidays was topped by Spain and Italy. The most popular destination for the Portuguese was Portugal.

Portugal is the third most popular destination for Europeans to spend Easter, behind only Spain and Italy, according to Jetcost. The demand for flights increased by 13% and that for hotels increased by 16% compared to the same period last year, in what was the highest number of searches ever on the search engine.

“A good number of Europeans who decided to travel during Easter 2024 will do so in Portugal due to our great climate, cultural richness, customs and religious festivals, in addition to our exquisite gastronomy, good hotels and infrastructure”, referred to Jetcost.

Within Portuguese territory, and among Europeans (Spain, France, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands), Lisbon was the most sought after location by British, German, Italian and Dutch travelers and the second most sought after by Spanish and French travelers.

Porto was the most sought after place by the Spanish and French, second by the Dutch and Italians and third by the British and Germans.

Faro is the second most sought after by British and German travelers, third by Dutch and French travelers and fourth by Spanish and Italian travelers.

Jetcost highlighted that Madeira, among the Portuguese islands, is the favorite of European tourists, taking into account that it is the third chosen by Spanish and Italians and the fourth by the French, English, Germans and Dutch. Porto Santo is the sixth destination to combine the preferences of Spanish, French, German and Italian travelers, and the seventh for the British and the eighth for the Dutch.

The island of São Miguel is the fifth place in terms of preference for Spanish, French, English, German and Italian people. Terceira is ranked seventh by the Spanish, French, Italians and Dutch and ninth by the British. Pico is the eighth place with the most demand for British and German people, the ninth for the Dutch and the tenth for the French and Italians. Faial is in fifth place among the most sought after by the Dutch, sixth by the English, eighth by the French and ninth by the Germans and Italians. And Santa Maria is the seventh most sought after place by Germans.

Portugal is the Portuguese’s favorite destination for Easter holidays, said Jetcost, with eight Portuguese destinations among the 25 most sought after by the Portuguese.

Porto appears in first place, followed by Lisbon (3), São Miguel (4), Madeira (6), Faro (15), Terceira (14), Faro (18) and Porto Santo (25).

In European terms, the Portuguese preferences for spending the Easter holidays were Paris (2), London (5), Zurich (7), Barcelona (8), Genoa (9), Rome (10), Amsterdam (11), Luxembourg (12), Madrid (13), Brussels (15), Milan (16), Lyon (17), Vienna (21), Budapest (22), Berlin (23) and Prague (24). And outside Europe we had São Paulo (19) and New York (20).

“This will be a record Easter, with flight and hotel search numbers never before achieved. Therefore, it is great news that we can confirm that tourists’ interest in Portugal continues, once again, at Easter”, points out Jetcost’s marketing director, Ignazio Ciarmoli.

“Portuguese cities continue to be major global tourist destinations, in which the good prices they offer in relation to other cities, their cultural richness, their beaches, their customs on these dates, their exquisite gastronomy and their good hotels and infrastructures, continue to attract a large number of tourists. Portugal is the third most searched country by Europeans on the powerful Jetcost search engine, to spend a few days of rest. It is not surprising, in fact, that the Portuguese agree with them, having also chosen their cities to spend Easter in 2024”, maintains the same official in a statement.
