The Municipality of Faro will once again join “Earth Hour”, a global movement against climate change, this Saturday, the 23rd, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

In a symbolic act, the lights will be turned off for 60 minutes in the following places and monuments: Arco da Vila, Largo da Sé, Paços do Concelho building, former Civil Government building and Jardim Manuel Bivar.

In addition to this symbolic moment, which marks the 16th year of joining “Earth Hour”, the Municipality also invites the population to join this initiative and turn off the lights in their homes, between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm,” in a gesture of raising awareness of the fight against climate change and promoting a better environment for future generations”, notes the municipality in a statement.

Earth Hour was born in Sydney, Australia, and has been held annually since 2007, having become a global sustainability movement that already unites millions of people.

The Municipality recalls that, “in line with its environmental protection policy”, it has been undertaking several environmental commitments, namely the replacement of luminaires in the public lighting network with LED technology lamps, “guaranteeing very significant energy savings and overall sustainability gains.”
