The municipality of Fornos de Algodres promotes another edition of the Serra da Estrela Cheese Fair between Friday and Sunday.
As in recent years, the 45th edition of the event will take place in the town’s sports hall, as the municipal market is undergoing renovation work. The event aims to promote Serra da Estrela cheese, which is considered one of the “Seven Wonders” of national gastronomy, and pay homage to shepherds, traditional cheesemakers and DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) producers. Organized by the municipality, the fair will feature other endogenous products such as «olive oil, sausages, honey, Dão wine, regional sweets and nettle products», including the Serra da Estrela dog and the most differentiating element of this event, the Serra da Estrela sheep. Highlights of the program include a “showcooking” session with chef Chakall, guided visits to artisanal cheese shops, prize giving from the VII Sheep Competition and an eclectic musical lineup with performances by Jorge Guerreiro, Irmãos Coragem, Diatónicos, DJ John Wood and FolkINATEL – Inatel Foundation Folklore Festival.
