Two detained in PSP searches in Portalegre, Elvas and Torres Novas

Two individuals were arrested, and several weapons, ammunition, vehicles and narcotic products were seized, following a PSP house search operation in the cities of Portalegre, Elvas and Torres Novas.

According to the Portalegre District Command of the Public Security Police, the operation took place yesterday morning, the 21st, in compliance with several home search warrants, as part of investigations into suspected crimes of drug trafficking, possession of a weapon prohibited and theft, which had been going on for several months.

The operation was coordinated by the Criminal Investigation Squadrons of Portalegre and Elvas and had a strong device made up of police from various other areas, supported by two subunits of the Special Police Unit (UEP), namely the Intervention Corps (CI) and by the Cinotechnical Operational Group (GOC), and also by several Rapid Intervention Teams (EIR) from the Castelo Branco and Santarém District Commands.

These resulted in the arrest of two men, aged 44 and 65, and the seizure of several weapons and ammunition, namely two Class D weapons (hunting rifle), two Class A weapons (a revolver with a tampered serial number and an airsoft gun), a replica firearm and 47 cartridges.

Two high-end vehicles, which had been stolen in Spain, and narcotic products (17g of marijuana, 140 seeds and 20 cannabis plants) were also seized.

One of the detainees was released and notified to appear before the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the other, after being presented to the Judicial Authority, will be sent to the Prison Establishment for having Arrest Warrants against him to serve a prison sentence.
