Second edition of the Festival das Sopas Ribatejanas showcases traditional soups in Vale de Cavalos

Soup will be king in Vale Cavalos in the second edition of the Festival de Sopas Ribatejanas, which will liven up the weekend of March 22, 23 and 24. The event seeks to remember the gastronomic culture of our ancestors, who had the most varied soups as a base of your food.

This event, which has been desired by the population of Valcavalense for a long time, as it portrays the parish, aims to promote and promote Ribatejo soups and counts on the collaboration of associations, communities and economic agents.

Over the three days of the Festival, around 12 varieties of typical Ribatejo soups will be served, including: lamb soup with green beans and watercress soup, respectively winners of 2nd and 3rd place in the 2023 edition, rice soup with tripe , country fee soup, chicken soup, country soup (rubble), mushroom soup, village soup, cabbage with beans, green broth, fish soup and stone soup, made with endogenous products from the municipality.

In addition to the soups, visitors will also be able to taste some snacks, such as alguidar meat, gizzards, bifanas, fried mackerel, scrambled eggs with farinheira and pica-pau.

The festival program also includes other activities, such as showcookings, livecookings, shows and music concerts, workshops, walks, local exhibitors, crafts, folklore and activities and games for children, with the presence of Agentes Vitamina.

The president of the Chamber, Paulo Queimado, told NS that the event is a partnership between the Parish Council of Vale de Cavalos and the municipality and is part of a series of initiatives to “value the resources of the various parishes in the territory”. Specifically, the Festival das Sopas Ribatejanas is “a revisitation of local gastronomy. From rich soups to rubbish soups, which were the basis of our families’ diet”, explained the mayor, also mentioning that this is also a way of involving the associative fabric in what is the municipality’s activity.
