This Saturday, the Portuguese under-19 football team achieved a significant victory over Serbia, 4-1, and will only need a draw against Denmark to qualify for Euro’2024.

In a match with total Portuguese dominance, the goals for the corner team were scored by Vivaldo Semedo, the main highlight when he scored twice (26 and 59 minutes), Rodrigo Ribeiro (45’+1) and Manuel Mendonça (70′).

Serbia also reduced the score in the final moments (90’+3), through Aleksandar Stankovic.

With this result, José Lima’s team has six points, the same as Denmark, who defeated Greece today (2-1), but the margin of four goals allows the Portuguese team to lead group 4, before the final match, scheduled for Tuesday, at 3:00 pm, at the Cidade de Coimbra Stadium.

The more balanced and competitive start in midfield was unlocked by the opening goal, which came in the 26th minute, after an excellent pass from Rodrigo Ribeiro, leaving Vivaldo Semedo to shoot at the nearest post, in a move in which the goalkeeper Serb was not exempt from responsibilities.

The advantage on the scoreboard gave the Portuguese team greater comfort, materialized just before half-time (45’+1), with Ivan Lima gaining the right lane and taking a perfect cross, offering the 2-0 to Rodrigo Ribeiro, who appeared isolated to the second post.

The third goal came again from Vivaldo Semedo, with the striker, who currently plays for Volendam, in the Netherlands, taking advantage of a loss of the opponent’s ball in a compromising area to deliver a well-placed shot.

In a result that could have been even more impressive, Manuel Mendonça, in the 70th minute, received and shot effectively, to close Portugal’s score, with emphasis on the excellent pass from João Vasconcelos from Braga.

The Serbs still managed to score the goal of honor, through Aleksandar Stankovic (90’+3), who had a whimsical deflection from Ussamane Djaló, betraying goalkeeper Diogo Fernandes and making the final 4-1.
