Today, the municipal executive unanimously approved the implementation projects for the Rehabilitation and Modernization of Escola Básica Dr. Pedro Barbosa and the Rehabilitation, Expansion and Modernization of Escola Básica da Abelheira, with a global value of more than 17 million euros.
The two projects, to be applied for under the School Recovery/Rehabilitation Program – Modernization of public second and third cycle and secondary education establishments, within the scope of the decentralization of competences to the Municipalities, are now progressing in order to have guaranteed financing.
In the case of the Abelheira Basic School, the rehabilitation, expansion and modernization of the educational establishment is at stake, practically meaning the construction of a new school, with an investment value of 12,338,974.12 euros. There, the program plans to meet the needs of the school, focusing on increasing the school’s capacity (from 24 to 28 classes), improving the physical conditions of spaces for students with multiple disabilities, accessibility, improving energy efficiency, security against fires and general conditions of use of the building in the teaching component.
The rehabilitation and modernization of Escola Básica Dr. Pedro Barbosa, an investment of 5,304,245.00 euros, meets the school’s needs, with a special focus on energy efficiency, fire safety and improvement of the general conditions of use of the building for teaching component. The project also proposes reorganization of the exterior streets to regulate traffic and increase student safety when entering/exiting the school grounds.
