The Caminha City Council approved, at the last meeting, the approval of the provisional list of candidates selected to benefit from incentives for higher education.
Before approving the proposal, the opposition, led by the councilor Liliana Silva, made a point of making some considerations. The elected member of the O Concelho em Primeiro (OCP) Coalition began by drawing attention to the time it took the Chamber – more than 5 months – to respond to candidates for higher education scholarships.
3 months before the end of the school year, Liliana Silva regrets the embarrassment that this delay is causing not only to students but also to their families.
Speed in the future was the challenge launched by the OCP councilor.
Also the OCP councilor Nuno Valadares warned about the delay in this entire process, noting that delays often lead to students having to give up their studies. The councilor suggested better coordination with the group of schools to determine how many students will be in this situation.
The councilor responsible for education, Liliana Ribeiro, did not provide any explanation to justify the delay in granting incentives. The same did the President of the municipality, Rui Lageswho put the proposal to a vote without providing any clarification.
OCP councilors are now asking for speed in the awarding of scholarships to university students.
