There are more young people supported with scholarships for higher education in Mangualde

Mayor says that the council needs the “knowledge and irreverence” of young people. Local authority awarded scholarships to 53 students in higher education

More than 50 higher education students from Mangualde received scholarships worth 17,500 euros. The Chamber says that this is the largest number of scholarship holders in the municipality since the measure came into force in the municipality.

At the ceremony, the mayor, Marco Almeida, appealed to young people not to forget Mangualde and said that the municipality needs them.

“Never forget your home municipality, which needs your knowledge and your irreverence, especially because you are now discovering the world and we need that world to continue progressing”, said the mayor directly to the students receiving the scholarships.

Marco Almeida also mentioned that the number of young people supported by the municipality increased to 53, nine more compared to 2023.

The value of funds also increased by 40 percent compared to last year. “Next year we will try to increase this value even further”, said the mayor at the ceremony.

The scholarships from Câmara de Mangualde, applications for which took place in October and November last year, are aimed at those pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees integrated into higher education.

The scholarship, which is given depending on the student’s family’s annual income, helps pay for accommodation, food, transportation, school supplies and tuition fees.

“This is a way of being alongside those who bring and want to add knowledge to our municipality, supporting students who want to continue their academic training, at times that can put more burden on their families”, argued Marco Almeida.

In the last six years, the Mangualde Chamber awarded 297 scholarships worth a total of 105 thousand euros.
