“Until when?” is an artistic and collective manifestation of the Movimento Sem Nome, which integrates nine theater groups from Braga and which opens, this year, the second edition of the Braga En’Cena Festival, on April 7th, Sunday, at 5:00 pm, at Theatro Circo .

The play that celebrates one of the most important moments in the history of Portugal, the achievement of freedom on April 25, 1974, was presented to the media this Tuesday, in an open rehearsal that took place in the Vimieiro Parish Council auditorium.

The Semnome Movement is part of the theater groups: Artes d’Alegria, CEA – Artistic Education Cooperative, Grupo Cénico de Arentim, Grupo de Teatro Planalto, Malad’Arte Produções, Nova Comédia Bracarense, Projecto Expressar, Teatro D’Art and Tin. Bra – Theater Academy.

Braga En’Cena runs until October 8th, bringing eight new shows to the stage at Theatro Circo, in a celebration of local theater companies.

For the president of Braga City Council, Ricardo Rio, “the Braga En’Cena cultural project is especially cherished by the municipality because there is a huge desire for theater to remain alive and active in the territory of Braga”. For the mayor, some of the groups represented in the Movimento Sem Nome “have decades of activity and have a very important legacy and past in the cultural associative movement and, despite some vicissitudes, in recent years they have grown and gained greater attractiveness in theater and greater dynamism, with an ability to recruit and attract more people, and that is exactly what we want to continue to do with Braga En’Cena”.

Director Roberto Moreira explained that he was challenged by the “Movimento Sem Nome” to build this show, in a union of efforts between the groups, who until now each worked in their own bubble on their mechanics, and with this movement comes this desire to want to come together to learn from each other to share experiences and work in a community spirit”.

Regarding the play, the person responsible said that it is “a show that aims to reflect on freedom today. The objective is to make people think, to provoke the public, that we can lose freedom, just like the carnation, freedom also needs to be watered and cared for every day. And we are all working so that on April 7th, Theatro Circo will be a great celebration of freedom.”

José Dias, spokesperson for the Movimento Sem Nome explained that the group “was born from a challenge that the municipality proposed to theater groups in the municipality, from amateur groups to professionals and theater for children, to come together, organize and create a show that celebrates theater and that is what we did and what we will do in this second edition of Braga En’Cena”.

Present at the open rehearsal was also the president of the Union of Parishes of Celeirós, Aveleda and Vimieiro Carlos Guimarães, who was very pleased to “put the Vimieiro amphitheater at the service of culture in Braga”.

Promotion of theater in the municipality

Braga En’Cena emerged in 2023 as a response from the Municipality of Braga to the wishes of local cultural entities, focusing on the promotion and development of theater in the municipality.

Emerging as a complementary initiative to support cultural entities dedicated to theater in the region, Braga En’Cena was born from the challenge of different companies dialoging and developing, in an articulated way, new theatrical productions, both in individual and collective projects.

Tickets for the shows are available at the Theatro Circo box office and online at www.bol.pt. The cost of each ticket is five euros and goes towards theater associations.

The complete program is available on the municipality’s portal at www.cm-braga.pt.
