Vila Flor promotes “Via Dolorosa” to recover the Holy Week Passion Records

Theatrical performance, carried out by the Filandorra Theater Company, will involve around a hundred extras from the local community and complements the religious programming of Holy Week in Vila Flor.

The event, promoted by Vila Flor City Council, with the collaboration of the Parish of S. Bartolomeu and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vila Flor takes place this Friday, March 29th, from 6pm. The Filandorra theater group is responsible for dramatizing the Via Dolorosa, a show that recreates Christ’s path to Calvary, “recovering” the tradition of the Autos da Paixão and manifestations of popular religious theater, very characteristic in the region.

The show, which is intended to be memorable and loaded with symbolism, will travel through various arteries of Vila Flor, the paintings are distributed on a route that starts at Fonte Romana, passes through the Berta Cabral Museum, Praça da República, Rossio, until the so-called half orange , close to the Cultural Center.

The objective, in addition to integrating and enriching the celebrations of Holy Week, complementing the religious program, with celebrations and various moments of prayer, from March 24th to 31st, whose programming the Municipality supports financially, is to offer another high-quality cultural event quality to Vilaflorenses, boosting the historic area, bringing heritage elements to life and attracting more and new audiences. An objective that can also be achieved with the direct involvement of the local community.

“One of the points to highlight is the civic participation of the community in popular figures and characters, approximately a hundred people, who throughout the 17 stages of the last steps of Christ’s life become involved; They will be apostles, soldiers, men and women of the people, for example”, says the president of the CM of Vila Flor, Pedro Lima.

The invitation was launched to local associations and groups, and the private initiative also expressed interest in participating in this cultural event with a biblical/religious nature to present to the community, religious or not. “We believe it will be a great moment, a huge cultural manifestation combined with faith and religiosity, clearly evident in our community”, concludes the mayor.

The organization believes that the show, in itself, is a reason to attract people and visit the municipality, but the main purpose of this dramatization is to provide an emotional and high-quality show for residents of the municipality.
