AGerman authorities are investigating the van that the main suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, Christian Brueckner, had in Portugal after the British girl disappeared in 2007. The van is a white Mercedes Sprinter.
According to The Sun, the German federal police want to examine the vehicle’s engine in the hope of finding traces of DNA or other important evidence for the investigation. Therefore, a request was made to the Rosier dealership, in Braunschweig, which rented the van to Brueckner between 2014 and 2015.
“We cleaned and repaired it, but not all the DNA was cleaned,” said an employee at the workshop where the suspect delivered the van. “There may still be hair and other traces of someone who was kept inside”, reinforced the man, who further explained that due to data protection he could not provide exact dates or other customer details.
In addition to the links to Madeleine’s disappearance in 2007, it is now believed that Brueckner also used the vehicle in 2015 when a girl known as “German Maddie” went missing.
Five-year-old Inga Gehricke disappeared from a family picnic in the woods in Wilhelmshof, Saxony-Anhalt. The only clue was the sight of the white van driven through the forest at the time the girl disappeared. At the time, the suspect lived in an abandoned factory in Neuwegersleben, just 90 kilometers away from where the child disappeared.
Brueckner was examined by police in 2016 and 2020 and is accused of three rapes and two counts of child sexual abuse between 2000 and 2017.
