It is one of the most famous races in the municipality and one of the most anticipated of the year for racing fans. In 2023, the Alegro Half Marathon registered a record 2,100 participants and is back for another edition that brings together true athletes, but also families. This year, there is something new: you can bring your pet.
Registration for the 34th edition, which takes place on April 27th and 28th, is now underway. The event, organized by the Municipality of Setúbal with the support of Alegro Setúbal and technical organization by HMS Sports, has as its main highlight the half-marathon. The race takes place on Sunday, the 28th, at 9:30 am, is aimed at people over 18 years old and has a 21.1 kilometer race, between the Alegro Setúbal shopping center and Largo José Afonso.
“The half-marathon, carried out on a route that combines the urban layout with the challenging Serra da Arrábida, includes a trophy for the finishing line, at 10 kilometres, and awards monetary prizes to the top five male and female classified, based on the general classification of the proof”, explains the municipality.
The Family Race starts at the same time and on the same day. The distance is five kilometers, as it aims to combine “leisure and healthy moments of conviviality with sports”. The goal is also at Largo José Afonso. On the 28th, the 10-kilometer Race will also take place, of a competitive nature, starting at 9 am, “on a route mostly carried out on an urban circuit, with a small foray into Serra da Arrábida and the finish line at Largo José Afonso”.
The Miúdos Alegro Race is scheduled for the 27th, Saturday, at 4 pm. Participants must have been born between 2011 and 2019. The distances are 200, 300, 600 and 1000 meters, respectively for the bambis, benjamins A and B and children’s classes, to be held outside the Alegro Setúbal shopping center. This event costs €3 and the amount raised goes entirely to APPDA — Portuguese Association for Developmental Disorders and Autism of Setúbal.
As part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, as part of the athletics festival, a Cãominhada will take place on the 27th, at 11 am, on a 4.5 kilometer circular route starting and ending at the Alegro Setúbal shopping center.
