The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warnings for Tuesday for the Central and Western groups of the Azores due to forecasts of “sometimes heavy precipitation, wind and sea agitation”, it was announced this Monday.

In a statement, IPMA states that in the case of the Western group (Flores and Corvo) the yellow warning, due to the sometimes heavy rain, will be in force between 8:00 am local time (9:00 am in Lisbon) and 2:00 pm on Tuesday.

Flores and Corvo will also be under yellow warning between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm on Tuesday taking into account the wind forecast, heading southwest (SW), turning west (W).

The IPMA also issued a yellow warning of sea disturbances for those two islands between 11pm this Monday and 5pm Tuesday, due to forecasts of waves from the northwest (NW), passing west (W).

In the Central group (Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa and Faial) the yellow warning, referring to sometimes heavy precipitation, is valid between 11am and 5pm on Tuesday.

The IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the five islands of the Central group between 11:00 and 20:00 on Tuesday due to the wind, heading southwest (SW).

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
