Pregnant woman from Lisbon assisted at Hospital do Barreiro

-

A pregnant woman had to travel 30 kilometers to be treated at Barreiro Hospital, the case is unusual, because the woman was sent by the Urgent Patients Guidance Center (CODU) to the south bank of the Tagus to be treated.

The woman who was believed to be in Alcântara, Lisbon, and who was supposed to be treated at Hospital São Francisco Xavier, was taken this Saturday in an INEM ambulance to Centro Hospital do Barreiro.

This shift is due to the fact that over the Easter weekend, maternity wards only received pregnant women who presented themselves, which was not the case.

According to the regional secretary of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo of the Independent Union of Doctors, she confirmed that there were restrictions on Obstetrics services in several hospitals in the capital, and that is why pregnant women were referred by CODU and INEM to other hospital units, in this case to the Barreiro Hospital Center, on the south bank of the Tagus.
