João Barbosa’s Buraka Som Sistema performed at the Coliseu dos Recreios for the first time in November 2011. Since then, the Lisbon musician and producer who we now know as Branko has returned to the capital’s historic stage, at festivals and accompanied by others artists, however, he never performed there under his own name. This will change in a few months, on November 28th.

The concert, announced this Tuesday, is part of the Sum, Branko’s most recent album, released on March 15th and presented live in the capital after nine days, last Sunday, 24th, during Sónar Lisboa. At the festival founded in Barcelona, the composer was accompanied by other musicians, but he could (and should) have even more artists at his side.

Sum is a snapshot of a “nnew Lisbon”, increasingly globalized, which has Branko as one of its main ambassadors. However, he is not the only one heard throughout these 12 tracks. O producer, who used to boast that he only needed a laptop to make music, had the rich idea of locking several local musicians in the Namouche studio, turning on the microphones and letting them play. Then he edited and used these jam sessionswhich lasted for hours, as raw material.

The result is an album of multilingual dialogues and languid invitations to the countryside, in which tarraxo, kizomba and afrobeats intertwine with carioca funk and other Brazilian music, but also with Portuguese rhythms and the lingua franca of global music, such as pop and r&b .

Among the singers who give voice to this Sum, there are veterans such as Teresa Salgueiro and Carlão, alongside names revealed in recent years, such as Dino D’Santiago and Carla Prata, June Freedom or London rapper Jay Prince. And it’s likely that at least some of these men and women will sing alongside Branko at the Lisbon Coliseum.

Tickets for the concert, on sale online and at the usual places, will have a single price of €28.
