The clothing company IRSIL – Irmãos Silva, founded 60 years ago in Oliveira do Hospital, will file for insolvency and close its doors.

More than 180 workers are unemployed.

The decision was communicated early this evening, by businessman Carlos Silva, in a message to all workers.

In the message to which the CentroTV The businessman, son of one of the company’s founders, had access, says that “after having exhausted all possibilities of obtaining orders that could sustain work over the next two months, unfortunately it was not possible”.

Adding that he took “negotiations to the limit of what was reasonable, but unfortunately it was not possible”.

Carlos Silva also says that “in view of this fact and analyzing the market perspectives in the near future, taking into account the company’s financial conditions, I do not see the possibility of continuity”.

He added that in this way the administration “made the most difficult decision of its 60 years, which is to go into insolvency”.

A CentroTV confirmed this information with company employees.

The leader of the Textile, Wool and Clothing Workers Union of the Center, Fátima Carvalho, also confirmed this situation to CentroTV. “The workers went on layoff and only received 90 percent of the month of March, through the layoff, and they also needed to receive the month of February, which was in arrears”, reveals the union leader.

“Workers should have been treated with more dignity”, emphasizes Fátima Carvalho.

According to the union leader, the company “should have had a more dignified death”, revealing that she will now meet with the workers to find out what position they will take.

Founded by the brothers Fernando, José and Pedro Silva, the latter left the company in the early 1990s, having founded a company in the same sector, which also ended up closing later, IRSIL had, for several years, the support of “ second generation” of the family, namely the children of businessmen José Maria and Carlos Silva.

A CentroTV He tried to contact the company’s management, but so far it has not been possible.
