The national team did not go beyond the draw against Italy in round 1 of qualifying for the competition

Portugal and Italy clashed, this Wednesday, at the National Stadium, in Oeiras, in the 1st round of the Elite Round of qualification for Euro 2024 in the women’s under-19 category.

In a closely contested game, the national team did not allow the Italians many scoring opportunities. The best opportunity for Marisa Gomes’ team came from a very dangerous free kick by Mafalda Mariano (34′), saved by the opposing goalkeeper.

In the second half, the national team loosened up more offensively and had more opportunities to score, mainly through Mafalda Mariano, Luísa Brás and Maísa Correia having the most obvious ones. However, none of these occasions ended in a goal and the draw ended up prevailing.

Portugal and Italy thus start their journey in the Elite Round with a draw. Also this Wednesday, in the first meeting of the Portuguese team’s Group, England beat Switzerland, 2-0. The second round takes place on Saturday, with Portugal facing the English, at 6 pm, in Cidade do Futebol.
