April’s values are also in sport. Great Padel, a padel complex in Vila Verde, has been carrying out a campaign to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, «challenging athletes to release the player in each of them», points out the company. The events will culminate with the holding of ‘non-stops’ by categories during the April 25th holiday, which is expected to bring together around 100 athletes.

According to Francisco Mota, CEO of Great Padel, «this challenge, in a provocative tone, seeks to mobilize and create enthusiasm in each athlete so that freedom is felt as the greatest individual achievement we can have, but at the same time that it is viewed as a great mission before the collective.”

He also highlights that «freedom is like a flower that has to be cultivated, watered and prepared every day, season or year. Only in this way can we guarantee full and committed freedom for future generations.”

The complex is decorated with white carnations, «because freedom has no color», and with thoughts «from philosophers, politicians, historians and military personnel that lead us to reflect on freedom».

«Sport and the practice of sport for all is also an achievement of freedom, and we have a moral obligation as sporting agents to contribute to increasingly democratic access to sport, in which regardless of where we are or where we come from, equality of opportunities is exercised to the same extent,” the young leader also declares.

For Francisco Mota, «celebrating fifty years since April 25, 1974, it is important to always reflect and remember that democratic normality was not born, by spontaneous generation, on that day.

Until November 25, 1975, there were several threats to Freedom from those who wanted to replace one dictatorship with another. It was the courage and military valor of those who honored their commitment to the Portuguese that finally brought us practical freedom, in addition to theoretical freedom».

Finally, he points out that “the commitment to freedom cannot be momentary, aesthetic and ceremonial words.

The organizations and institutions that represent and lead the sectors are collective spaces and are morally committed to freedom. As much as they are synonymous with power, it must be exercised with transparency, commitment and loyalty towards their peers.

We should all seize freedom as an opportunity to be better.”
