Children from Meio Kindergarten unveil mural on the 50th anniversary of the Revolution

Before the inauguration, which took place on Friday morning, the school’s children led a march, to the sound of “Grândola, Vila Morena”, by Zeca Afonso, and only afterwards was the mural unveiled.

Raquel Oliveira, educator and coordinator of Jardim de Infância do Meio, admitted that this was a day “very special” for the institution and especially for the “43 children from both classrooms” who got down to work.

“We were challenged by the Monserrate School Group to work on the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April and this is how it is with children, everything grows“, she explained, enthusiastically, at the end of the event, which was attended by several dozen of the boys’ family members.

Preparations for this day began, especially in January. “We have the mother of a girl and the representative of the parents in my class, who was extraordinary, tireless. She was the one who found the painter, a fabulous artist, Paulo Martinez. She embraced the project and we have a lot to thank her for“, he highlighted.

As for the tiles, they were provided by APPACDM, in collaboration with the Parents Association. “They provided us with the materials and the boys each drew their own harpsichord.“, he explained.

Thanks to everyone’s support, Jardim de Infância do Meio did not spend a single cent on this initiative.

“We asked here, we asked there, my colleague found knitwear to make uniforms for our little soldiers… It was all done by us here at the school. The cost was zero“, added the coordinator, also admitting that the children ended up learning a lot about the 25th of April with this activity.

The inauguration of the mural was accompanied by the Viana do Castelo City Council, the Areosa Parish Council and the Monserrate School Group.
