Sabreen al-Sakani was born last Sunday, in Rafah hospital, by emergency caesarean section, after her mother died in an Israeli attack in Gaza. At just 30 weeks pregnant (about 7 and a half months) and weighing 1.4 kilos, the “martyr baby” ended up not resisting and died on Thursday, the 24th at four days old. Premature, the baby was born with respiratory problems and a weak immune system and thus joins the list of 15 other children who died in Gaza last weekend.

Sabreen’s family – her parents and a three-year-old sister – were sleeping when their house was hit, leaving it practically completely destroyed.

According to the European Union, the protracted humanitarian situation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate rapidly due to the continued intensification of hostilities following the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel in October 2023 and the resulting large-scale Israeli military operation , together with the blockade of the enclave, which made the humanitarian situation for the 2.2 million inhabitants catastrophic, resulting in a high number of civilian deaths and a concrete risk of hunger.

Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive, the EU has already sent more than two thousand tons of goods in 48 flights via the air bridge and announced this Thursday the increase in humanitarian aid to Palestinians affected by the war by 68 million euros.

According to a statement from the European Commission, the new aid – which brings the total to 193 million this year alone – will be channeled through partnerships with organizations already on the ground and is intended to contribute to food, nutritional, health, water and health assistance. and support for shelters, among others.
