The Municipality of Resende celebrated Freedom Day with several activities aimed at various audiences.
The celebrations began on Saturday, April 21st, with the theater play “A Madrugada”, by Oficina de Teatro Eç’Agora, which told the story of a country of sad people, whose treasure and freedom were stolen.
On Sunday, April 22nd, the game “Playing I also learn: Discovering the 25th of April” took place, a quiz about Portugal before and after the Carnation Revolution.
On the night of April 24th, Wednesday, the Municipal Auditorium of Resende hosted the concert “Vozes da Liberdade – Músicas e Memórias do 25 de Abril”, a show with songs from the revolution, performed by the Grupo Coral de Resende, interspersed with the recitation of poems, by the voices of residents of Resendenses and video testimonies from residents, from each parish, who lived in the pre-25th of April period.
On April 25th, Thursday, the celebrations began with the parade of the Volunteer Firefighters of Resende and the Musical Band “A Velha” of S. Cipriano. After the Humanitarian Association’s Guard of Honor, the flags were raised in the Town Hall, to the sound of the National Anthem. Later, the musical group performed at Largo da Feira.
Then, the inauguration ceremony of the Memorial of the Former Combatants of Resende in the Colonial War took place, in Jardim 25 de Abril.
The Municipal Auditorium of Resende hosted, at 11:30 am, the Solemn Commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, which began with the Anthem of Local Power, by the Musical Band “A Velha” of S. Cipriano, followed by the presentation of the play “A Madrugada” performed by Oficina de Teatro Eç’Agora.
At 4pm, at the Resende Municipal Museum, the documentary “Recordar Abril” was shown.
This Friday, April 26th, still as part of the celebrations, at 9:30 pm, the Municipal Auditorium will host the “Celebrar Abril” concert.
