The Portuguese Government is “expectant” regarding the Iranian Foreign Minister’s announcement of the early release of the crew of a Portuguese-flagged ship linked to Israel, recalling that it has always defended its release and that of the crew.

A source from the office of the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, confirmed the conversation held between the Portuguese ruler and his Iranian counterpart.

As the Portuguese MNE published on social media, in this conversation Paulo Rangel insisted on the “release of the ship and crew” and “made a strong appeal for military containment to avoid a warlike escalation in the region.”

As part of the efforts to free the ship MSC Aries, the Portuguese Government, through Paulo Rangel, presented, in detail, political, legal and humanitarian justification for the immediate release of the ship and crew, the same source from the Portuguese MNE.

The Portuguese Government is, therefore, “expectant” to resolve the situation.

Iran seized the ship linked to Israel at a time when a response was expected from its side to the April 1 attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, attributed to Tel Aviv, which killed seven members of the Revolutionary Guard, including three generals.
