According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), Alentejo registered 119 thousand guests and 210 thousand overnight stays in March this year. These are increases of 20% and 21% respectively over the same period in 2023.

In relation to overnight stays, non-residents in the region continue to be a constant, since of the number mentioned, 134 thousand are people who do not reside in Alentejo, which corresponds to an increase of 22.5% compared to last year. Residents account for 75.8 thousand overnight stays, which also registered an increase of 18.4%.

When it comes to guests, the trend is reversed. There were around 78 thousand resident guests, which represents an increase of 18.05% compared to around 66 thousand last year, and around 41 thousand non-resident guests, which represents an increase of 23.96% compared to around 33 2023.

At a national level, tourist accommodation registered 2.3 million guests and 5.7 million overnight stays, corresponding to increases of 12.2% and 12.8% respectively.

Overnight stays by residents grew by 10.3%, corresponding to 1.6 million, while overnight stays by non-residents increased by 13.8%, totaling 4.1 million.

Also according to INE, these results were “influenced” by the mobile structure of the calendar, that is, “by the effect of the holiday period associated with Easter, which this year was spread between March and April, while in the previous year it was concentrated only in April ”.
