World Dance Day – Opinion by Ana Marques

World Dance Day turns out to be an important day, because it creates an involvement and a topic of the day focused on our art, on Dance.

Dance that in Portugal has gained its position and has gained its prominence, its recognition.

Taking into account that on an artistic level we work a lot and end up not yet achieving true prominence on a common level, Dance is seen as art and not only art, but also as a sport, because we have athletes who train every day and, therefore, this also implies daily management of our dancers, with very well-defined routines so that successes and results are truly visible.

But, World Dance Day comes anyway to mark the importance of what we do, to mark the importance of our art, of our culture in terms of the art we make, of shows and of all dimensions and in the most varied ways that the dance can manifest itself. In our case as AM Dance Studio, we all work with children from 3 years old to, therefore, there is no age limit and we realize that this passion for Dance involves everyone, involves families, involves dreams and also involves a very important social practice, because naturally, not all students who are dancing with us want to pursue Dance, but Dance for many, is like an escape and a refuge. Therefore, it is a way for them to feel good about themselves, give them motivation, self-esteem, security and also put them to the test in some situations and, therefore, this also helps them to grow and helps our students to grow in a way more conscious, more directed, more objective, deep down, with a little more responsibility, because dance also instills this. The very responsibility of what is done makes people grow, therefore, Dance also educates and helps young people to grow in a happier way. The famous phrase said that those who dance are happier and, therefore, I believe in that a lot. I believe that those who dance really have greater happiness, because Dance allows us to free our feelings through movement and through what we do we can express many feelings.

But yes, Dance in my case, as a teacher and director of AM, Dança Studio is my life, and I can say that I do what I like and what I always dreamed of doing. Therefore, World Dance Day must be celebrated. Always remembered, talked about and we must never give up on our dreams and work for recognition of what we have done.
