The feature film is another contribution from the actress with Yorgos Lanthimos.

She’s only 35 years old, but Emma Stone is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most important actresses of her generation. Winner of two Oscars, the interpreter fulfilled what was expected of her more than a decade ago, when she began to emerge in Hollywood as a young woman with enormous potential.

Although it is impossible not to remember the star in films such as Superbad, La La Land, Zombieland, Birdman, The Amazing Spider-Man and others, today, we will not talk about these here. In 2018, Emma gave birth to an acid comedy that won over audiences and critics, titled The favorite and once again under the direction of Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Creatures).

WHAT IS THE FAVORITE STORY?

In the plot, set at the beginning of the 18th century, England is at war with France, but the weakened Queen Anne can barely react to the nation. Instead, the future of the country is in the hands of his closest confidant, Lady Sarah, who, in addition to various government matters, also looks after the health of the monarch – an extremely stressed person and prone to temper tantrums.

When a new servant, Sarah’s cousin Abigail (Stone), begins working at court, she initially takes on menial tasks, but the queen quickly notices the beautiful young woman’s intellect and charm. In this way, Sarah’s privileged position begins to be threatened, starting a war for the role of the queen’s darling.

If Emma Stone won the most important golden statuette in cinema with La La Land and Poor Creatures, in 2019, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress with The Favourite (in the original) – but ended up being surpassed by Regina King for her work in If on Beale Street Speak. Stone delivered a phenomenal performance as Abigail Hill, considered by critics to be one of the film’s highlights.

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Favorite has a 93% critical approval rating, with a consensus that Lanthimos delivers a film with rich and timely subtext, fueled by impressive performances. The cast also includes other big names in the audiovisual world, led by Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, Nicholas Hoult and more.

For those who want to check it out for themselves, it is worth mentioning that the work is available for streaming on Star+ and Netflix.
